The president of a company has on his desk a simple carpenter level. You know the type that tells you whether the picture on your wall is hung straight or need correction.
When asked what it represented, he said that there were ten items that were important to him when he was sales person. The level helps to remind him of those every day.
- Make sure that what you do has purpose and direction. Do not let someone else tell you that you are on course if you really feel that you are not. Stay the course
- Keep sales and the loss of sales in balance. Realizing that you will lose sales its part of the process, and sometimes you have no idea why one person will buy your product and other will pass on the purchase.
- Not every wall is straight. If you have tried to hang a picture, you know that each wall is off just a bit. It doesn’t really matter and too much is made of getting it just right. Everything is off a little bit!
- Be careful as to how you spend your day. Too many sales people become obsessive about their day, trying so hard to maximize every moment of every day to sell. You need to rest; take time off and recharge your batteries.
- Find level ground to stand on. When you try too hard to “trick” someone else to do something, you are uneven ground and it never works. Find level ground, honest ground .
- Remember that the other person has his or her own level or balance. You cannot violate it and step into their space. They have a right to where they are as much as you do.
- Keep your life level and in balance.
- Teach your kids these life lessons.
- Be true to yourself.
- Keep level in your spiritual life.
